What is your favorite part of volunteering with SPH?
I have really enjoyed reconnecting with SPH. Being part of planning events, recruiting speakers, mentoring graduate students, and just generally assisting with SPH priorities is a lot of fun and very gratifying. Mentoring students has been especially fulfilling. I’ve been able to watch them obtain admission to other advanced degree programs or exciting positions in the field of public health.

Why did you decide to volunteer with SPH?
I had primarily volunteered with technical/professional associations and several non-profits since graduating from SPH. I wanted to devote some time to helping my alma mater since I benefited from my degree (MS in environmental health) throughout my career. The more I’ve learned about health care, the more I’ve come to appreciate that the field of public health is critical for populations that we serve.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering with SPH?
Just do it! Volunteers are always needed, and there are a lot of different avenues to get involved. Your contribution will be acknowledged and appreciated, and you’ll meet new folks. It is great to work with like-minded professionals in this important work.
