Community Engagement
Epidemiology MPH students are active in the public health community through an Applied Practice (AP) experience. The required AP provides an opportunity for students to establish themselves as professionals through mentorship, and to apply the knowledge and skills attained in the classroom through hands-on work experience.
Recent AP experience locations for Epidemiology MPH students include:
- University of Minnesota: Assess structural barriers to the accessibility of buildings in the U of M Twin Cities campus.
- MN Department of Health: Include a non-binary gender option in the MIIC database to provide information about vaccination rates and series completion rates in non-cisgender populations. Future projects based on this data could include outreach and provider education. It will also provide a gender-affirming option on data reports at the state-level.
- Virginia Piper Cancer Institute: Compare health outcomes in patients of east African descent with hepatocellular Carcinoma, treated with either localized thermoablation or radiation segmentectomy.
