A new documentary television series focused on the experience of aging in Minnesota features two experts on the topic from the University of Minnesota (UMN) School of Public Health (SPH). Called “Inside Senior Living,” the program delves into the lives of older adults and their families as they navigate the complexities of aging and appropriate senior living arrangements.

SPH Professor Tetyana Shippee, Distinguished McKnight University Professor Joseph Gaugler, and Associate Director of Policy for SPH’s Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation (CHAI)  Rajean Moone were interviewed and contributed to the show.

Shippee is a social gerontologist whose primary work focuses on quality-of-life measures for people in long-term care settings, as well as the role of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in those settings. Gaugler is the Robert L. Kane Endowed Chair in Long-Term Care and Aging and director of CHAI. His research interests include the sources and effectiveness of long-term care for older adults with dementia and the effectiveness of community-based and psychosocial services for older adults with memory concerns and their caregiving families. Moone, who also serves as faculty director for the Long Term Care Administration in the UMN College of Continuing and Professional Studies, is one of Minnesota’s foremost experts in LGBTQ aging. His work focuses on ways to help long-term care providers and other caregivers to address the unique health needs of the LGBTQ community.

“Inside Senior Living” is hosted by Melissa Fritz, a senior living industry professional and daughter of a father who had dementia. Fritz says the goal of the series is to make aging and senior living choices an everyday conversation in mainstream culture.

The series is available for streaming on PBS.org or via the PBS App, which is accessible on various devices including iPhone, Apple TV, Android TV, Android smartphones, Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Fire Tablet, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, and Vizio.
