SPH Tutor

The SPH Tutor serves as a free and neutral point of contact for any SPH student seeking academic assistance in a PubH course. The SPH Tutor is primarily focused on supporting students with Epidemiology concepts, but can serve other PubH courses as well. Direct support and/or referral to additional resources may be offered. The SPH Tutor is available for group and individual tutoring sessions.

SPH Tutor Office Hours:

The SPH Tutor will not be keeping regular office hours over the summer. Please email sphtutor@umn.edu to set up an appointment.

Who is the SPH Tutor

Mary El-Afandi (she/her) is the current SPH tutor. She is a recent graduate of the School of Public Health, earning an MPH in Community Health Promotion, with a minor in Epidemiology

What does the SPH Tutor do?

The SPH Tutor serves as a free and neutral point of contact for any SPH student seeking academic assistance in a PubH course. The SPH Tutor is primarily focused on supporting students with Epidemiology concepts, but can also serve as a resource for other PubH courses, as well as help with general study strategies. The tutor can provide direct support, where possible, and can refer students to additional resources, if needed.

When is the SPH Tutor available?

The SPH Tutor will not be keeping regular office hours over the summer. However, appointments can be set up either in person or over Zoom at any mutually agreed upon time. Please email sphtutor@umn.edu to set up an appointment.

Can I meet with the SPH Tutor remotely?

Absolutely! Both drop-in office hours and individual appointments will be available over Zoom for those who would like to meet remotely.

Can the tutor help me with my homework?

The SPH Tutor can help students with the course concepts and study strategies, but they cannot directly help with completing the homework itself.
