School of Public Health Employer and Student Event
Career Connect is an employer-student event hosted by the School of Public Health Career & Professional Development Center. It provides students with the opportunity to network with current public health professionals from a variety of sectors—non-profit, government, corporate. In turn, organizations have a chance to meet talented students for current or future employment opportunities.
Other amenities such as refreshments, information on Applied Practice and graduate minors relating to public health plus other resources will also be provided.

- Confirmed organizations will be notified in January. Additionally, event-specific instructions (directions, parking, etc.) will be sent as the event draws near.
- Graduate students attending will represent a variety of degrees and programs from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health; a top 10 public health school.

What is career connect?
Career Connect is an employer-student event hosted by the School of Public Health Career & Professional Development Center. It gives SPH students a chance to engage with public health employers, communicate their individual strengths, skills, ask organizational questions and learn more about career options in Public Health.
What do I need to bring to the event?
Although it’s not a job fair, we recommend you bring several copies of your resumes printed on resume paper. In addition, bring your student id to check-in. Coat racks will be available for use outside of the room, however please know the coat racks will not be monitored at all times. If possible, we encourage you to leave your laptops and other valuables at home.
Who can attend?
This event is open to all students enrolled in the school of public health. It is free to attend.
What organizations will be in attendance?
We’ve gathered representatives from approximately 30 organizations representing nonprofits, government institutions, and private industry. A listing of employers will be updated on a weekly basis on the event’s home page (search Career Connect on the school’s homepage).
How do I register?
Registration is free, but must be done in advance. Register on the event’s homepage (search Career Connect on the school’s homepage).
How can I prepare?
You can prepare by attending an information session, hosted by the Career & Professional Development Center. This event is designed to help you get ready to network, promote yourself, and possibly find a field experience or employment opportunity at Career Connect. Look for more information on the date/time on the Career & Professional Development Center’s homepage.
What other opportunities are available from the career center?
Last semester alone, the Career & Professional Development Center organized five employer visits, including the Public Health Law Center and Accenture. Employer visits consistently receive positive feedback from both students and employers. The Center also hosted two field experience information sessions, one focused on domestic field experiences and one focusing on international field experiences, which also will be offered in the spring semester. In addition, the Center can provide workshops on a variety of career and professional development topics. For upcoming events, visit the SPH Event Calendar.

What is career connect?
Career Connect is an organization-student event hosted by the School of Public Health Career & Professional Development Center. It gives organizations a chance to connect with high caliber students who are interested in learning more about your organization, meet potential candidates for current or future employment opportunities and collaborate with the School of Public Health. It is not a job fair but more of an information event for students to learn about your organization.
How do I check in on-site?
Please arrive for check-in between 1:45 and 2:15 pm. When you arrive, please let the front desk know you are here for Career Connect — a School of Public Health event. They will allow you to enter. The event will start promptly at 2:30 pm.
How many representatives can I have at my table?
Given space limitations, please have no more than two representatives at your booth.
How big is the table? What is included in my registration?
We encourage you to bring a tablecloth (or two) for your booth with your company logo. Tables will be 5′ long. Each organization will have one table unless you requested two on your registration form. Please note, there will be limited space for other displays or banners beyond tablecloth(s). Free WiFi is available as a guest and water, coffee and light snacks are available.
Can I attend career connect even if I don’t have open positions?
Yes, you may attend Career Connect even if you do not have open employment opportunities at this time.
What students are allowed to attend career connect?
Students enrolled in the University of Minnesota School Public Health will be in attendance. Students in the School of Public Health are enrolled in MPH, PhD, and MS degrees in various academic divisions including, Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Community Health, Environmental Health Sciences, Health Policy & Management.
How else can I get connected to students at the school of public health?
- Post a field experience internship or job opportunity
Post a field experience or full-time position directly to graduate students or alumni through our recruiting system. Projects and research collaborations are other great opportunities for connecting with students and faculty researchers. - Volunteer as a speaker, panelist, or mentor
