In this forthcoming seminar, we turn our attention to the essential work conducted by the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center (GLITEC), a pivotal entity serving thirty-four tribes in a three-state region, and four urban centers. Established with the fundamental objective of bolstering the health and wellbeing of Indigenous communities, GLITEC, as a public health authority, plays a monumental role in the facilitation of comprehensive community health assessments, steeped in cultural reverence and understanding. As we delineate the center’s partnership with the Indian Health Service, we will explore how it brings to the fore data-driven insights through meticulous data analysis and reportage, thus informing public health policy systems, environmental and public health law, and tribal health statistics. Further, we will examine the center’s efforts in promoting cultural evaluations with traditional supports, thereby weaving a safety net for individuals grappling with opioid use disorder, domestic violence, and other pressing social determinants of health. This seminar promises to offer a rich understanding of GLITEC’s multi-faceted approach to community upliftment, inviting participants to envision a future where healthcare is both a beacon of tradition and a promise of hope. Join us as we explore the nexus of culture, policy, and health through the prism of epidemiological training and research support services provided by GLITEC. |
