Dr. Rebecca Cunningham is one of the nation’s leading experts on issues related to firearm injury prevention. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Cunningham has secured more than $50 million in federal grants to advance evidence-based research projects designed to address the root causes of, and potential solutions for, the most important issues involving firearm violence. She served as director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-sponsored Injury Prevention Center at the University of Michigan. Dr. Cunningham also launched the Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention at Michigan to support and catalyze innovative research and train future generations of scientists to pursue this field of scholarship. She also served as principal investigator on the Firearm Safety Among Children and Teens Consortium, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, which brings together researchers, practitioners and firearm owners to identify opportunities to reduce youth firearm injuries and deaths.
