Most of the food you eat is regulated by the FDA. Consequently, the FDA has enormous power to support and improve public health. In this seminar, Dr. Harnack will provide a primer on FDA food and nutrition regulation, including sharing little-known and underappreciated nutrition regulatory success stories. The crucial role sound science plays in informing and supporting FDA regulatory decisions will be discussed, with examples of nutrition regulatory science carried out at the University of Minnesota shared. Strategies for identifying timely and key regulatory science research needs will also be discussed.
