University of Minnesota School of Public Health (SPH) Associate Professor Ann Brearley received a teaching award from the American Statistical Association, which is the primary professional organization for statisticians and data scientists in the United States. Brearley received the Outstanding Section Service Award from the Teaching of Statistics in the Health Sciences (TSHS) section.
In announcing the award, TSHS noted that Brearley has taken several leadership roles and performed substantial service in support of its mission and goals.
Across numerous roles at TSHS, the organization noted, she has “demonstrated exemplary leadership, guiding the section with vision and effectiveness. Ann’s leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence have significantly enriched statistical education in the health sciences, leaving a lasting impact on the profession and the section.”
Brearley’s teaching interests in SPH’s Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science include biostatistical literacy, active learning, online learning, project-based learning, methods for teaching consulting skills, methods for training future teachers, collaborative teaching, and evaluation.
