“The PhD experience provided strong grounding for speaking to those without formal economics training.”
Zach Levin, PhD, ‘23, is an economist in the Antitrust Division of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Bureau of Economics. At the FTC, he provides economic analysis to support the evaluation of mergers and acquisitions, predominantly in the healthcare sector. In addition to casework, Zach researches how healthcare providers, particularly hospitals, interact and compete in their local markets.
“A key component of my work at the FTC involves translating economic theory and analyses into language that is understandable to the FTC’s attorneys and other staff. Because the interdisciplinary nature of the HSRP&A program necessitates learning how to explain research for audiences outside of your immediate field, the PhD experience provided strong grounding for speaking to those without formal economics training.”
Zach’s research has appeared in the American Journal of Public Health, Journal of the American Medical Association, JAMA: Pediatrics, Journal of General Internal Medicine, and Academic Medicine.
