Jawad Towns’ field experience with NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center allowed him to work with a multi-specialty medical, dental and mental health center and human service agency.
Towns assisted in the development of a project charter to help formalize the role of a cross-departmental team focused on improving the delivery of integrated services. He also identified a centralized client registration and scheduling process. Through a literature review he found various models implemented by health care and human service organizations across the country.
“I was surprised at how much I’ve learned in some of my Public Health Administration and Policy courses that have directly applied to this experience,” says Towns.
“For example, I’ve observed firsthand the challenges of leading effective change to improve organizational processes as studied in my Health Leadership and Change course. I also see how reform within the U.S. healthcare system is having a direct impact on how NorthPoint employs innovative approaches as learned in my course, The Health Care System and Public Health.”
