The Executive Public Health Administration & Policy MPH program welcomed a third cohort of 20 students to campus Jan. 6-9.
Cohort 3 is every bit as diverse and energetic as Cohort 2: Six work in health departments at the local, state, and federal level, including one health department director and a U.S. Public Health Service Corps member who works for the FDA. There are clinicians, including a trauma nurse and drug and alcohol counselors, and several representatives of the health insurance industry, among others.
While on campus, the news students worked together to start their first course, Setting Priorities and Framing Public Health Issues, and participated in seminars on writing in graduate school, using the library remotely, and the SPH career services program.
On Jan. 28, several members of Cohort 1 presented their Master’s projects. Projects ranged from an analysis of governance issues for Minnesota Community Health Boards to the politics of public communication about Ebola to analyses of large VA datasets. Three Executive PHAP students reported on their travel to India to participate in UMN’s Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility’s first ever “Global Health, Globalization and Leadership” program in Mysore.
Cohort 1 served as the motivation for the Ignite! The Future of Public Health symposium, held on Jan. 29 as part of the Cohort’s graduation celebration.
